The Death of the Blue Moon Phase: Hacker-Pschorr Weisse

Before I referred to myself as a beer snob, my favorite beer was Blue Moon. As this past summer went on, I drifted farther and farther away from my go-to beer. I think I shifted out of that phase because of this beer.

Hacker-Pschorr is a German-based brewery and I must say that this hefeweizen is one of the best I've ever had. It's a good thing it's from the motherland. I'm going to go with a different review style for this beer just as a heads-up.

Color: Hacker-Pschorr Weisse has a bright orange tone to it. A little bit brighter than Blue Moon. The beer is also unfiltered (as most hefeweizens are) so you can't see through it. The head is white and frothy. It remains on top for most of the drink.

ABV: 5.5 percent

Smell: The primary scent I got from this beer is a citrus-type. From the first waft, you get a sense of both orange and lemon. It's heavenly.

Taste: After your first taste of this, Blue Moon will taste like rotting orange peel for the rest of your days. The Weisse has the perfect mix of lemon and orange with the typical wheat/yeast taste you expect from any hefeweizen. You go to bed dreaming about this beer.

Overall Rating:

Never before has one beer made me feel so ashamed of myself for being so attached to something of such low quality. It isn't considered a Belgian white by any means, but the citrus tastes and smells you get from it draw the Blue moon comparisons.

This beer also falls under the special glass category. You know it's most likely a great beer if it's consistently served in its own glass.
