We've got plenty of interesting neighborhoods in and around the city of Pittsburgh. Squirrel Hill boasts some of the best pizzerias in the area in Mineo's and Aiello's. The South Side seems to be the craft beer and food capital of the western side of the state, at least in my opinion. Homestead seems to be the center for pumpkin beer on an annual basis as I mentioned in a post late last week (thanks to a commenter it looks as if 20 pumpkin beers might be available at the Blue Dust event).
I received a press release from Brooklyn Brewery concerning an interesting event I never really knew took place. Apparently the brewery tries to hold annual events in different craft hot-spots around the country to let residents of said towns experience the Brooklyn area in a different way than they're probably used to.
The events are all referred to as "The Mash" and has a decent portion of the proceeds benefiting Slow Food USA. The events making up The Mash in Pittsburgh will donate a heft portion of proceeds to the Pittsburgh branch of Slow Food, according to the release.
Plenty of food and beer events are planned. The release also promised that plenty of "rare and perennial Brooklyn beers" throughout all of the festivities. Just head over to the Mash Pittsburgh page for all of the little details. The release I received has the first event on Oct. 22, but the web page has an event starting on Oct. 21. I'm guessing new events are being added. Regardless, the Mash event in Pittsburgh lasts until Oct. 27.
