Many of us are well aware of the out-of-date liquor laws in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We've bickered with each other about them for years concerning the subject. With that said, a lot of us still find loop-holes in the system.
Beer trades, as we call them, happen all of the time in states that don't allow the shipping of alcohol within their respective borders. It's not allowed in Pennsylvania, but that hasn't stopped many from shipping and/or receiving. Think about it, it's not like the state governments or the post office inspect every single package. You can pretty much ship anything you want. Just pack it in the box and take it away to begin its journey.
Last Thursday, news broke of a Senator's idea to end an old law that prohibits the USPS from shipping alcohol. Sounds like a great idea. I don't think it'll erase all of the hurdles in terms of shipping alcohol from state-to-state, but it's certainly a step in the right direction. According to the article, the change would only allow the post office to ship to and from states that already consider it permissible. Obviously, such a law wouldn't change much in Pennsylvania.
Why the hell not, though? The post office in this country is already in dire straits. It has financial issues out the wazoo. Why not help it out while giving brewers a small boost financially, too?
