On With Tradition

Quite a few Thanksgivings ago my uncle turned on the radio around noon and asked me if I had ever heard the song that was playing. I said no and asked what the hell it was and he proceeded to tell me about how it was just this 20 minute long story the singer tells. I listened and have been captivated ever since. I make it a tradition every year to put down everything I'm doing once it airs and sit there for its entirety.

Given that I wake up in my own bed, every Thanksgiving goes exactly the same.

  • Breakfast and coffee while catching a bit of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. (HAS TO BE NBC's FEED!)
  • Drink first beer of the day at noon when said song airs on radio,
  • Begin preparations for football.
  • Head to my grandmother's to meet family.
  • Of course, dinner.

I'm pretty positive that I posted on Thanksgiving Day each year I've had this blog. I'm definitely sure I did it last year. One of the oldest and noblest of Thanksgiving radio traditions. I'm sure many radio stations play it at 10 a.m. and/or noon today. So, if you don't have the allotted 18 minutes to listen to it here be sure to tune in on the radio to catch this classic story.

Even with the fallacies of Christmas shopping deals and television specials being on before today, Thanksgiving remains as my favorite holiday. Beer. Food. Football. Family. In my view, life can get better in very few instances. To everyone that's celebrating this or any other holiday out there at some point this weekend please be sure to enjoy it to the fullest.

You Can Still Get Anything You Want

I posted pretty much the same thing on this day last year. Well, why not? This song is pretty much a Thanksgiving Day tradition on radio stations across the country.

As far as I know, WDVE should be playing the song at noon as it does every year. Just in case, you miss that or want to listen earlier I've once again embedded it for you.

Be sure to have a happy Thanksgiving. My family sure will. This is a special one since this is the first time that approximately 90 percent of the beer we will be drinking is homebrewed. Cheers.

You Can Get Anything You Want at Alice's Restaurant

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It has three of the great things one can enjoy in life: family, beer and food. I hope yours is a good one. I also hope you know Arlo Guthrie's story of Alice's Restaurant.
