I'm sure most of you came across the Beer Geek parody video from a few weeks ago. I even had a post with the video embedded within. Apparently the creator developed a small series along with actually speaking on the subject and intention of his videos via BeerPulse.com.
"So this is where I come in and tell you why I made these "Today's Beer Geek" videos. For one, because it's funny and two to really give these "internet beer geek" types a reality check."
I don't think I've read a statement this hypocritical in my life. He says he made the videos to be funny, but right after it he blatantly stakes out his grudge. That's all i think this is. John Smith, as he calls himself due to fear of harm to his professional career, simply has an axe to grind.
Just read the rest of what he says in the article I linked. I said it in my original post when the first video came out. The guy has a huge axe to grind because he probably didn't get a chance to try one of the Pliny IPA's or Kentucky Breakfast Stout this year. All he says in the linked post is Pliny, Pliny, Pliny. The word Pliny is also said in the videos many times. Something is obviously on the mind of this guy. Get him a pint of his beloved Pliny.
Why can't he be happy that craft beer is getting increasingly popular? Every interest in the world has annoying bandwagon fans. Deal with it.
I'd bet any money if this guy saw anything I did on here, Untappd or Twitter he'd be fast to charge me with many of the same things he's putting in his videos. Yes, I'm really snobbish about what I drink, but I didn't just decide to suddenly get into all of this. It's been a process spanning over about six years for me.
The only reason I need sites like Beer Advocate and RateBeer is to find calorie content and ABV's to make sure that if I drink a beer I can get my self back home.
I'm not always so quick to obsess over somewhat popular beers such as the ones this gentleman unfortunately missed out on. I've never had either Pliny beer nor Kentucky or Canadian Breakfast Stout. Nor do I care about fighting crowds to get a chance to try them. Let everyone else have at it like wolves.
I also haven't been scared to try a popular seasonal that everyone raves about to only find it ordinary.

New "Beer Geek" Video Circulates the Web
Posted by
Bill Kostkas
Today's New Wave of So-Called "Beer Geek." from John Smith on Vimeo.
I'm sure that there has been someone that's come across my blog here and thought the very same thing. I'm at least realistic about that. I at least put my image on what I do here and not going by "John Smith." In my opinion, whomever made this is just upset that they didn't get their batch of Kentucky Breakfast Stout this year since craft beer has pretty much exploded.
Of the "rare beers" mentioned in the video I've only tried Dogfish Head's 120 minute IPA and didn't enjoy it. I know better than to waste my time looking for the Pliny series and KBS.
We don't really and probably won't ever know the true intentions of the video, but I at least got a decent laugh from watching it.
